Farm Walk

FARM WALK transforms the once austere and formal spaces of the University Library into an exuberant edible landscape. As a response to the static and imposing presence of the library, the new dynamic landscape presents multifunctional and human-scaled spaces that support the library, university, and the surrounding community. Open spaces are designed to foster cross-community engagement through education and agriculture.

The design functions as an integrated, self-sustaining system that, in addition to growing food, harvests solar energy, collects rainwater, and processes and composts waste on site. The landscape of the University Library acts as a laboratory and incubator of experimental sustainable infrastructure. New green systems, whether technological or natural, can be tested here as prototypes before being adopted university-wide.
