Garden Studio
The client wished to convert an underutilized garage/tool shed into a multi-purpose space for his whole family to use. The challenge was to accommodate conflicting uses in a small space. Instead of a series of small rigidly programmed rooms, the shed is designed to be reconfigured to adapt to several scenarios: a quiet office to read and write, a space for entertaining that opens to the garden, and room for woodworking and garden maintenance. The original structure is stripped down to its wooden structural frame which is reinforced to accommodate the additional design elements. The result is a light-filled flexible space that, depending on the season, can open up to warm breezes from the garden or shelter occupants from chilly gusts during colder months.
