Plage de l'Est
The design for Plage de l'Est extends the beach experience into the water, allowing native grasses to repopulate the shoreline while creating a unique recreational space for the neighborhood and surrounding community. This approach provides habitat for plants and animals, filters surface runoff and mitigates flooding.
A natural shore creates a great fishing environment and a living classroom to study the ecology of the St. Lawrence River. The pier serves as multipurpose aquatic infrastructure that includes a shallow end for children (.5m-1m) and a deep end for diving (off of the ramp), swimming and playing. Both swimming areas are walled by a perforated mesh that allow the river water in while keeping out large debris.
