Overpeck Park
Although it’s called the “Garden State,” New Jersey may be better known for its industrial landscape of highways, oil tanks and smoke stacks. We propose an ecologically sensitive approach to the improvement of Overpeck County Park - an 811 acre former landfill site. This ambitious project aspires to provide extraordinary public space for Bergen residents. The proposal focuses on art, health, tourism, environmental education and research as a valuable addition to the existing music venues, playgrounds, and sports facilities. We envision Overpeck as an essential part of life in northern New Jersey. The park will be a celebration of the fact that Bergen County is one of the most culturally diverse places in the country.
Several new park facilities, including a boathouse / eco classrooms, comfort stations, piers, and picnic shelters compliment the existing amenities and create a unified family of structures strategically sited throughout the park.
